All though it is about an hour from downtown PHX it is a pleasant drive if you take the 202 North West through mesa and connect to the 202 in Tempe. Power Ranch, Higley Estates and many Circle G Ranches are within its boundaries and even if you are all the way at Riggs Rd near Adora Trails its only 12 minutes to the 202 via Power Rd.

The winter months are a little crowded on the streets. The reason is Snowbirds, or winter residents. This may because in the pass this area was very affordable to buying to Golf Properties and Retirement Communities like Leisure World and Seville.

Where do people shop for groceries?

Also its incredibly difficult to choose where to shop, there are full and energetic shopping centers on every corner. Also choosing a grocery store is difficult there are many different options. The main grocery stores and super markets are Fry’s, Bashas, Albertsons, Safeway, Walmart neighborhood market and Fresh and Easy. Also if healthy eating is the way for your gluten free diet you’ll want to check out Sprouts, Trader Joes and Whole Foods. They have the best organic vegetables and produce around and most of it is said to be locally grown. Good luck picking your favorite. We suggest Fry’s marketplace they offer incredible coupon savings and sales as well as gas rewards points.

What is the traffic like when driving to the downtown are?

Traffic from Gilbert can be busy at peak times. If you work in North Scottsdale it could take you an hour and a half to get to work each day. And speaking for the work commute, commuting can be a pain if you do not car pool. Frequently the 60, and 101 on ramps and freeways are stop and go with the morning commuting to Scottsdale and Downtown Phoenix.

Finally do not drink and drive. Gilbert is nationally known for cracking down on DWI offenders, so please avoid putting others at risk when you are behind the wheel. You will lose your license for a year and you will go to jail. Its not worth it. Also Old Town Scottsdale is over and hour away so if you like to go to bars the taxi ride home can be very expensive.

Are there any good public or private schools?

The Gilbert School District is fantastic and award winning. However each school is not created equal. Some schools are understaffed and under funded so its best to ask around the potential neighbors in your area to see how the feel about their child’s learning. There are many private Schools in the area that surpass this issue but they can be cost prohibitive.

The different public schools that serve this community are Basha High School, Payne Junior High an Riggs Elementary. If you want to drive a little ways the private schools in the SE Valley are diverse and offer everything from Christian learning to a more disciplined education environment.

What about nearby pre-schools?

Gilbert has many pre-schools in its acres and you can read reviews on our Schools Directory. Among the best are the Private Montessori Preschool, Sunrise Pre-Schools, the Goddard School, and Christ Greenfield Lutheran to name a few. The city also has tax incentives if you are not ready to part with your child and want to home school them.

What kind of community amenities are there?

All though each neighborhood and community offers many perks, Gilbert communities are near many public city parks, and numerous diving and play ground pools. There is the Santan Village out door mall that is a hub of activity and the teenage groups, and many movie theaters in the area Like AMC and Harkens Cinemas. If you want to drive north on the 17 you can do some out let shopping as well. There are also quite a few public libraries that all offer some type of preserver or walking park with lakes on the premises.

If history is your thing the down town Gilbert offers many hints to the town’s agricultural roots like Joe’s Real BBQ and and the Farm House at Agritopia. Since Gilbert is continuing to grow more and more amenities will be made available to residents in the near future. In fact just North of Pecos on Higley a very large area is being built up for night time fun, dining, shopping, and people watching as well as a large Dog park with a lake.

Well the town of Gilbert Arizona offers a bulletin board of community news and a calendar of events. Some notable things to consider are the Dedication of the Gilbert Fire Station Number 10 in September and the Wiggle Worm Adventures on the 28th. Also each October is a the Fall Music and Halloween Festival that is put on by the community services division at Freestone Park. This is also where the best fireworks can be seen each July 4th.

There are many softball and base ball leagues that play at the field of Dreams on Power and Elliot and the Brunswick lanes on Gilbert Rd has nightly bowling teams as well. There are also several boot camp style cross training fitness groups you can see stretching along the streets in the mornings.

How long does it take to drive to the airport?

the drive to PHX is about 30-40 minutes and Mesa gate way is only 10 minutes so if you can fly allegiant air our of the Mesa Airport. they offer very cheap flights to many national destinations like Chicago, New York, and maybe even Canada.
